Eight Strokes & The Moving Word is an award-winning 55 min program that entertains and engages young audiences with contemporary dances based on the Chinese Lion Dance, Chinese Opera Movements, and the martial arts. This educational program compliments the Company’s touring repertoire, and has been presented most recently at The Yard on Martha’s Vineyard, MA, Tampa, FL, MASS MoCa, and in Birmingham, AL.

Spring Classes 2012

THE SPRING SCHEDULE

The 2012 Spring Semester opens after the Lunar New Year celebrations and runs Saturday, February 25, 2012 through June 17, 2012. 
Piano classes must be PAID IN FULL by January 15 for continuing students. New Students can register beginning January 18.

The School (est. 1980) provides art instruction in dance and piano, with admission through interview and audition.  We have a wonderful faculty of professional instructors with air-conditioned and heated classrooms for your comfort. Piano classes are offered to current dance students only.

Holiday Dance Intensive:

The School is offering a 3-Day Dance Intensive for Ballet and Modern Dance levels I/II - V from February 21-23!

Note: The Dance Recitals will be held Saturday and Sunday June 16 - 17

The School will close for Easter Week 4/7- 8 and Memorial Week 5/26 - 27

Audition for Dancers

H.T. Chen and Dancers seeks strong male modern dancers for its 2012 season of performances, plus rehearsal of new choreography and touring.
Paid rehearsals, concerts, national touring, educational programs
Auditions are: throughout February. Please email for appointment:
Location: Chen Dance Center, 70 Mulberry St, 2nd fl, corner Mulberry & Bayard, 1 block south of Canal Street

Requirements
Strong modern work required. Must be available immediately for weekday rehearsals.
Please note: We will be as efficient as possible to eliminate during the auditions, but it usually takes 3 weeks for final selection to be determined.

Recipient of the 2009 NYC Mayor’s Arts Award, a 2002 NYS Governor’s Arts Award, and a 2005 Bessies Special Citation, the company performs annually in New York, conducts residencies and educational programming throughout the year, and operates a year-round school and blackbox theater in lower Manhattan.
