Nancy Zendora and the Zendora Dance Company explores human resonance with the mythic and natural world in three evenings with “Into Darkness....And Then.” Performances include two exciting dance landscapes: Demons of Our Bewilderment and Landscape with Visitors.
Landscape with Visitors is inspired by the Nazca Lines in Peru, an ancient site composed of lines as well as images of animals such as condor, whale and hummingbird. The piece extracts the essence of their mystery in suggesting the movement of the images. New Flight within the larger dance is a companion solo for Ms. Zendora with mask by Ralph Lee. It is performed in a circle of light and composed of small movement gestures that show struggles of flight. Music by Mike Fisher (dijeridoo and ambient sound) and Korean Traditional.
Demons of Bewilderment (premiere) includes a solo performed by Marie Baker-Lee, The Sprial Universe, to the music of Jose Luis Greco for solo cello. It expresses the mood accompanied by a burst of dawn light. The trio section is influenced by the haunting presence and disturbing attitudes of Himalayan sculpture in the Rubin Museum. Music: Ajerbijian composer Franzhi Ali Zadeh.
