Teato Local in a dramatic blend of theater and physicality presents Gift Horse.  Packages are delivered, party games are played, a woman waits for an arrival and gifts are given and received in a room littered with confetti and streamers.  In the aftermath of a party, three women come together to assess value, examine the cost of giving and unwrap the question of presence in this dance-theater work. 

Choreographed by Teato Local Artistic Director, Joel Sherry and performed by Phoebe Brooks, Miranda Mikesh, Pamela Starobin and Joel Sherry, Gift Horse, is made up of a cast of dancers and actors ages 18 – 50. 

Joel Sherry first began presenting evening-length performance pieces in 1993.  His company Xeng Peds performed in Los Angeles at the Barnsdall Art Park and the Los Angeles Theater Center.  Since moving to New York in 1995 Mr. Sherry started the dance company Teatro du El (now Teato Local), and he has presented work at Soundance Studio Theater, Mulberry Street Theater, Danspace Project at St. Mark’s Church (as part of the Food for Thought series), and at Context where his piece Pullman-Standard was selected as part of Highway-New Choreographers Initiative.  After a seven year hiatus, Joel Sherry is happy to return to dance making with the premier of Gift Horse.

By Subway - 6, N, R, W, Q, M, J to Canal Street.  Walk east along Canal Street towards Chinatown.  Turn right on Mulberry Street.  Walk 1 block south to Bayard Street.  CDC is on the northeast corner of Mulberry & Bayard.
By Bus - M15 to Chatham Square; M101, M102 to Bowery and Chatham Square; M6 to Canal Street
